How our Program Differs from Others

Delivery

Content

Our program starts with a respectful, safe environment

Nothing happens if attendees don't feel safe to try out new thoughts and habits

We build-in parenting examples whenever possible

We do this for a number of reasons:
  1. People will do things for their children that they will do for no one else.
  2. Attendees typically do not want their children making the same mistakes
(for those without children, they are always modeling behaviors to nieces/nephews.
  3. We ask them to attend each class as if they (someday) will teach similar concepts to their own children
(this improves their listening and comprehension)

We offer free weekly follow-up sessions

A few dozen hours of training is a good start but real change requires ongoing attention and accountability.
Over thirty years ago, I co-founded a group patterned after (change-expert) Earnie Larsen's own growth-group.
Our non-professional, peer-run group continues to meet every week to deal with issues of growth and balance.

Sunday morning meeting times accommodate work schedules and the lives of our attendees

Having a job is a critical anchor to becoming a solid citizen in the community, so we plan meetings to accommodate work commitments.  Since we started meeting on Sunday mornings, 100% of attendees that started the program have finished the program.

All reading happens during sessions

Anyone who has lead such groups has seen attendees madly completing homework in the parking lot just ahead of the next class -- a recipe for disaster.  We have a number of important readings that we make time for during the class.  Then, we have a group discussion as to what that reading has to do with the goals of the class.

The class incorporates entertaining, yet poingant lessons

Carefully selected exercises and demonstrations break-up the reading and discussion to keep attendees on track with the curriculum.

The best of the best

Part of the program's design was to do a thorough meta-search of existing programs and the science behind them.

One expert validated such an approach, calling it cherry-picking the best of existing programs.

Pre and post tests

We make available pre and post tests depending on the needs of the judicial system.

Respectful, yet challenging

On more than one occasion, I have been accused of being a velvet hammer; that is to make observations or requests that are (perhaps for the first time) are heard and adopted.
